At Parties Universe, we believe the best parties focus on fun, creativity, and quality time with loved ones—without the stress of complicated setups. If you enjoy these games ideas you might also love to try our free outer space party plan.

Space Game 1: Lost in Space! (Four Corners)

A space version of “Four Corners”! Label four corners of the room as different parts of a spaceship (e.g., Engine Room, Cockpit, Cargo Hold, Observation Deck). You can take them on a spaceship tour to familiarise them with the layout!

Children dance around, and when the caller shouts, “Four Corners!” they must run to one of the four areas.

The caller, with eyes closed, spins sound and points to a corner, and whoever is there is cast out into space. Instead of sitting out, eliminated players “float into space”—pretending to drift away while making funny sound effects!

The winners of the game are those children lucky enough to evade the floating corner for each round!

Space Game 2: Mission Control Says

In this fast-paced action game, the leader calls out different space commands, and the children must quickly follow the instructions. The last ones to react are out, and the game continues!

  • Launch to Mars! – Run to one side of the room.
  • Return to Earth! – Run to the opposite side.
  • Float in Zero Gravity! – Pretend to float in space.
  • Look Through the Telescope! – Pretend to look through binoculars.
  • Repair the Space Station! – Drop to the floor and pretend to fix equipment.

For younger children, you can remove a few actions or reward the fastest player instead of eliminating participants.

Top tip: We love creating a story around sending kids into a ‘black hole’ or into ‘outer space’ when they are out of the game! Its adds a bit of fun, and lets kids do a dramatic ‘blast off’ or do a silly wibble into the black hole, making them more liekly to join in and not play up at being called out!

Space Game 3: Astronaut, Astronaut, Meteor

This game is a space-themed version of “Duck, Duck, Goose.” It’s perfect as a familiar game for kids to get immediately stuck into when they arrive or for them to join in if they are a little shy and don’t know many people.

Children sit in a circle. One child (Child A) walks around the outside of the circle, tapping the other children on the head while saying, “Astronaut, astronaut, astronaut…” When Child A taps someone and says “Meteor!”, that child (Child B) jumps up and chases Child A around the circle.

Child A must run all the way around and sit in Child B’s spot before getting tagged. If successful, Child B becomes the new runner. If not, Child A plays again.

Sometimes familiar games like these are the easiest for shy kids to join in with, and its also one that parents can join to help kids warm up if they need some extra support at the start.

Space Game 4: Space Freeze Dance

This game works like “Musical Statues.” Children dance while music plays, and when it stops, they must freeze in place. Super simple but also always a crowd winner!

Encourage silly space-themed movements while they dance, like floating in zero gravity, doing a moonwalk, or pretending to drive a spaceship.

Typically any kids to wobble are sent out, but for a party, you don’t have to send people out, you could also award prizes for the funniest frozen poses!

If you send kids out, the winner is the child left dancing in the final round after all other kids have been sent out.

Space Game 5: Commander’s Orders

A space version of “Simon Says,” where one player, the “Commander,” gives commands that begin with “Commander says…”

  • Commander says touch your nose! (Everyone must touch their nose.)
  • Commander says jump up and down! (Everyone jumps.)
  • Spin like a satellite! (If anyone spins without “Commander says,” they’re out!)

To make the game more fun, instead of eliminating players, send them to the “Black Hole Zone,” where they do a silly wiggle before being zapped into the black hole corner of the room!

This is a great game to get a bit of fast paced focus in the group if they are being a little too high energy or need a little more structure! Use to your advantage 🙂

Space Game 6: Rocket Relay Race

A classic relay race with a space twist! Relay Races are a brilliant addition to any party. They add a super fun energy and touch of competitiveness that gets kids engaged like nothing else!

Divide kids into teams and have them pass a space-themed baton (like a toy rocket) from team memenber to team member until the whole group has completed the course! The fastest team to complete the course wins. To avoid a win/loose aspect, you can assign each finishing team a planet icon (like a trophy), largest to smallest to show some level of winning but keep the energy fun.

To make the realy races even more fun, give them a challenge for how to get from start to finish. Instead of running, have the kids jump or crawl, or hop backwards! This can be altered to be age appropirate, and it could even include hopscotching, or jumping over ropes on the floor or weaving in and out of cones!

To add excitement, give each team matching astronaut armbands for some extra team spirit! You can have them name their space ship as their team name. All of this adds excitement and great fun!

Space Game 7: Dodge the Asteroid Shower!

This game is similar to “Musical Bumps.” While music plays, children dance around doing all sorts of astronaut floating dance moves!

When the music stops, they must drop to the floor as if dodging an incoming asteroid or ducking inside a space station for cover.

You can narrate different space scenarios for excitement! This is a great game to get the children to burn up a bit of energy.

Space Game 8: Sleeping Aliens

This is a perfect game to get all the kids giggling! It’s a space-themed twist based on the classic game “Sleeping Lions.”

Pretend the caller is on a space mission and they have heard some funny sounds coming from some aliens that appear to be asleep! They want to find out which alien has been making the sounds so the alien can be told to be quiet and stop disturbing the astronauts!

Children pretend to be sleeping aliens, lying still on the floor. One child plays the Space Explorer and walks around, trying to spot any movement. If an “alien” moves or giggles, they’re out!

However, when the Space Explorer’s back is turned, aliens can quietly make funny alien sounds- the funnier the better! Kids will usually get more and more giggly as the caller gets more and more pretend frustrated, and as the alien sounds get weirder and weirder!

Space Game 9: What’s the Time, Space Captain?

A space-themed “What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf?” One child is the Space Captain and stands at one end of the space, while the others (astronauts) stand at the other. The astronauts chant, “What’s the time, Space Captain?” The Captain responds with a number (“Four light-years!”) and the astronauts take that many steps forward.

When the Captain shouts, “Time for take off!” they must run back to the start before being tagged.

The first to reach the Captain wins!
