Builder Game 1: Busy Builders

In this fast-paced action game, the leader calls out different builder and construction worker actions and the children have to follow them as quickly as possible. The last ones to react to each instruction are out.

Here are some command instructions:

  • Carrry the Bricks! – Pretend to lift and carry heavy bricks.
  • Hammer the Nails! – Tap one hand against the other like a hammer.
  • Cement Mixer! – Spin in a slow circle like a rotating drum.
  • To the diggers! – Kids run to one side of the room and pretend to scrape into the ground like a digger.
  • Tea break! – Kids run to the other side of the room and pretend to sip a cup of tea

For younger children, you can remove a few actions or reward the fastest player instead of eliminating players. Older kids can have a few more actions in the game to keep it tricky!

Builder Game 2: Brick Stacking Challenge

A game of skill and teamwork! Provide children with soft building blocks, cardboard boxes, or plastic cups and challenge them to build the tallest, most stable tower before time runs out.

You can make it even more exciting by giving kids “construction roles”—some are builders stacking bricks, while others are “inspectors” who test if the tower can stand without falling!

This is so much fun and gets a real team spirit going! Go around each group and get a cute photo of them with their towers.

Builder Game 3: Toolbox Relay Race

A classic relay race with a construction twist! Relay races are a brilliant addition to any party. They add a super fun energy and a touch of competitiveness that gets kids engaged in a really fun way!

Divide kids into teams and have them pass a builder-themed baton (like a toy hammer or a measuring tape) from teammate to teammate until the whole group has completed the course! The fastest team to complete the course wins.

To avoid a win/lose aspect, you can assign each finishing team a “Best Builder” badge to celebrate participation and keep the energy fun.

To add excitement, give each team matching construction sticker name tags or some item of dress-up costume that will unify them as a team! You can also let them pick a team name!

Builder Game 4: Digger, Digger, Bulldozer!

This game is a construction-themed version of “Duck, Duck, Goose.” It’s perfect as a familiar game for kids to get immediately stuck into when they arrive or for them to join in if they are a little shy and don’t know many people.

Children sit in a circle and one child (Child A) walks around the outside of the circle, tapping the other children on the head while saying, “Digger, Digger, Digger…” When Child A taps someone and says “Bulldozer!”, that child (Child B) jumps up and chases Child A around the circle.

Child A has to run all the way around and sit in Child B’s spot before getting tagged. If they are successful, Child B becomes the new runner. If not, Child A plays again.

This game is easy for shy kids to join in and great for warming up the group.

Builder Game 5: Foreman’s Orders

A construction worker version of “Simon Says,” where one player, the “Foreman,” gives commands that begin with “Foreman says…”

  • Foreman says touch your hard hat! (Everyone must touch their head.)
  • Foreman says dig! (Everyone pretends to be digging)
  • Lay some bricks! (If anyone pretends without “Foreman says,” they’re out!)

To make the game more fun, instead of eliminating players, send them to the “Lunch Corner,” where they do a funny rest pose before rejoining the game!

Builder Game 6: Construction Exhibition

A creative game to wind down the party! Give each child a piece of paper and some crayons, and ask them to draw their dream construction project. They can design anything—a giant skyscraper, a new school, a rocket launch pad, or even a castle!

Once everyone is done, have a quick “construction showcase” where you go around the circle and each child shows their project to the group. Each child can win an award for their efforts, and get a Star Builder sticker or something similar for the “most creative”, “most colourful”, “most exciting” ….you can make up something for everyone to take the fear out of the ‘presentation’.

This is meant to be fun and some kids will love it but if others are shy, they can work in teams, or they can ask someone else to present their work, whatever makes them comfortable. Be sure to set it up as an exciting opportunity to share and see which award you win, rather than making it sound like a work task!

Builder Game 7: At the workshop! (Four Corners)

A construction-themed version of “Four Corners”! Label four corners of the room as different work zones (e.g., Brick Yard, Tool Shed, Cement Station, Design Office). Before the game starts, take the kids on a quick “job site tour” so they know where everything is, and which corner is which!

Children dance around, and when the caller shouts, “Four Corners!” they must run to one of the four areas.

The caller, with eyes closed, spins around and points to a corner, and whoever is there “on lunch break”(out of the game!). Instead of sitting ‘out’, eliminated players can pretend to grab their lunchbox and take a well-earned rest in one designated area while cheering for their friends!

The winners of the game are those who manage to keep working on-site the longest!
